# What does ingredient order on a cosmetic label mean?

Ingredients are generally listed in descending order of predominance, with specific exceptions. Order alone does not tell you whether a formula will suit your skin.

## Keep the test simple

Change one thing at a time, follow the current label, and note timing and symptoms. That makes benefit or irritation easier to identify.

## When should you stop?

Stop for persistent burning, swelling, blistering, hives, or worsening symptoms. Seek urgent help for breathing trouble or severe swelling.
